Thiaw leads Domba an Afro-jazz group that blends an eclectic
variety of traditional African drums and instruments with saxophone,
bass, keyboard and guitar.
Domba, in David's Senegalese language
means the Power of Belief. The music is a remarkable blend
of African songs, rhythms, and instruments combined with Western
instruments and jazz-sharp arrangements. Their debut CD,
African skies, was released in 1996.
The result is both dynamic and melodic
or, as Avenue Magazine enthused, "Domba is a searingly
hot fusion of Jazz and African rhythms."
